The thing about money is…

9 08 2008

I never seem to have enough. But not in the same way everyone else seems to not have money. You know those people, the ones who say things just to say them? Yeah, all, “oh I’m so broke too (tee hee)! Want to get some dinner and see a movie?” Um… no, because, I’m ACTUALLY broke thanks.

Honestly… I could have more money. I could have kept my full time job instead of running off to work for myself and then failing when I realized the city I’m in has NO market. Well it does… but it’s so full of cheap clients and green designers willing to work for pennies. So any self respecting designers, like yours truly, can’t make a buck for our endless talents. So then I took the part time job. Ah, the part time job. The “job/daycare center” that I can’t stand to be at. That one. Needless to say, I can’t keep my broke ass there long enough every day to make enough money.

Today for example I thought to myself, I’d like to get some groceries. The fridge is kinda empty and you know, I’m bound to get hungry at some point this weekend… so that might a smart use of time. Well, unfortunately, the bank account disagreed with this idea. The bank account laughed at me and said, “HA! You want to buy food and get to work this week… I think not.” So now I’m in munch-on-whatever’s-in-the-pantry mode, which isn’t fun. Because there’s really only canned green chili and that super healthy, bought two years ago and couldn’t eat without vomiting cereal. (sigh).

Being a grown-up sucks.

That’s so funny we posted the same thing. Money…the continuing problem that still makes me happy.

I’ve totally been there with the whole “eat what’s left in the grocery” thing. I think that left me with cheese, peanut butter and pretzels…yeah…

Being a bill-paying grown up DOES suck.

Being a grown-up totally sucks. I’m in the same situation today!
You know who I blame? Bushy. If you could have saved like 20 bucks
from filling your tank (the car’s, not your belly…) then you would be able to buy groceries. If the food prices weren’t sky-rocketing like they are (gradually….if sky-rocketing could be done gradually, it’s doing so right now). . . then you could have bought groceries. And if Bushy wasn’t a self-centered money-grubbing oil tycoon. . . .like he is. . . you would be able to eat like…a full meal.

I think the government should supply everyone with hydroponic growing supplies. That way everyone can have a garden, even if their soil is bad or they live in an apartment! And even some solar panels to help power it.

The stimulus checks. . . ain’t shit!

I hate those people that complain about not having enough money (my mom, for instance). . . when they are eating out and buying whatever they want all through the week until it runs out and they flip out.

oh and I have my comments set to be moderated so I don’t get crazy-amounts of bots.

My bf is a total twat. And. . . the thought of dumping him freaks me out. . . but that is slowly becoming not the case here lately. He needs to shape up or I’m shipping out :)

First, kudos for going out on your own, even if it hurts the pocketbook right now, at least you tried it. Most people dream, but fear failure and never give it a shot. You’ll have more shots at it if you want in the future, and it sounds like you’ve learned from this first attempt. Stop beating yourself up about leaving the full-time job.

I dropped out of grad school, quit my job, and opened a business. It was successful, but my heart wasn’t in it – so I sold my half to my partner. Now I’m going to grad school for what I love to do & preparing to start a new business. Why not? life’s too short not to do what we love doing.

good luck to you
